Diwali
Honorable sir and all my dear friends, I am
going to speak something about the greatest Indian Hindu festival ‘Diwali’
Introduction
– Dear friends, as you know very well
that India is a land of festivals. There are many great Indian festivals like
Eid, Holi, Rakshabandhan, Guru Parv, Christmas, and friends ‘Diwali’ is also
one of them. Friends, Eid is the main festival of the Muslims, Guru Parv is Sikh’s
main festival, Christmas is the main festival of the Christians, and ‘Diwali’ is
the greatest festival of the Hindus. It is a holy festival. Now friends, I
would like to tell you the meaning of ‘Diwali’. Friends ‘Diwali’ word is the
short of ‘Deepavali’ and friends the meaning of ‘Deepavali’ is the row of
‘Deeps’ (Lamps). It is a festival of lights and lamps. Friends, this festival is
celebrated in the month of ‘October’ or ‘November’ (Kartik) every year.
Reason – Friends, now I would like to inform you that
why this festival is celebrated. Friends, on this day Lord Rama returned to
Ayodhya, after the fourteen years of exile, and killing the ten headed demon Ravana
in Lanka, so the people of Ayodhya welcomed Lord Rama by burning candles and
lamps and with great enthusiasm. So this festival is celebrated. We can say
that this festival is a celebration of happiness of the victory of goodness
over evil, and also the victory of the light over darkness.
Celebration
- Friends, Now I would like to express
you that how this festival is celebrated. This festival is celebrated after the
twenty days of 'Dusshehra' festival. People remain very much eager for this
festival. Before ‘Diwali’ people clean and white wash their houses and shops.
People decorate their houses with lights and lamps. They burn candles and
earthen lamps (Diyas) in front of their houses. The market remains very much crowded
on this day. All types of shopkeeper remain very much busy in their business
during the four days of Diwali. Girls remain busy in making beautiful and colourful 'Rangoli' in front of their houses. They remain busy in preparing new dishes and
sweetmeats. The Hindus give alms to the poor. People burst crackers, they wear
new clothes. This festival is celebrated with great pomp and show. They greet
one another by saying ‘Happy Diwali’. The merchants start their new account books.
Conclusion – Friends, as you know that Diwali is a holy
festival. But some people play gamble and drink wine in the mood of joy and
happiness during these days. This is the worst habit of this holy festival. We
must uproot this evil custom from our society. Some arson incidents also take
place during this festival because of the negligence of the people. Friends, my
message is that People and especially children must beware while bursting
crackers. They should not become extravagant. At the end, we can conclude that People
should celebrate this holy and joyful festival with harmony and peace.
