Child Labour
Is it always fun to attend school? Is
it always fun to sit idle and watch your favourite TV show? Is it always fun to
help your mom in the kitchen? Well, these activities are not always fun for
sure. However, when you look at your kids your age who work hard to help their
family without thinking about fun at all, it really doesn’t feel right. Does
it?
There are so many kids working
everywhere as domestic helps, as waiters, as factory labourers, ect. It is sad
that disparity of such gruesome nature exist in this world. And it is sad that
all the little angels have to either witness this brutality or even worse –
face it. As kids you can help eradicate child labour by taking following steps:
- Do not support child labour: There are several households that unknowingly, without meaning any harm, employ children as house help. In case your family has a child working as house help, you must discuss the issue with elders.
- Report the child labour: There are NGOs working to curb this nuisance. Employing a child as worker in itself is cruel, but in case you notice any kind of physical abuse towards child workers you must take help of an elder and report it to the NGOs.
- Be kind: As kids if you are not allowed to interfere in this ‘injustice’ what you can do is share your kindness with the underprivileged kids. Giving them food, not abusing them either by words or actions, just being more humane and tolerant towards their mistakes, etc can make the kids happy.
The effects of child
labour can be very dangerous to an underage worker. Some of the effects include
greater risks of hearing loss, a much greater need for food and clean water,
and also a higher chemical absorption rate. The children in factories aren’t
always given food therefore they need food and water. Children working in the
brass ware industry constantly inhale toxic chemical fumes from applying
chemicals to the wares causing them to have a lower tolerance for chemicals.
Child labour is
something akin to slavery. Many of the children are forced to work long hours
every day for minimum pay, and the work they do is pretty dangerous. Simple act
of treating destitute children kindly can make them happy. This little step
from you can change their lives. Thus, even if for some reasons you cannot
change the entire world with regard to child labour, you can still make a
difference by being kind, polite and humane towards them.
