Speech on Indian Festivals




My hobby is study and learn speech series.....

Indian Festival

We celebrate festivals on particular days to mark a special event of the past. It is time for fun and joy for everybody. People wear new clothes. People greet one another. India is called ‘The land of festivals’. Many festivals are celebrated in India. These festivals are as follows :-
Dusshera
It is a festival of Hindus. It is celebrated for the victory of good over evil. On this day, Rama gained triumph over Ravana, the king of Lanka. Large effigies of Ravana, his brother Kumbhakarna and his son Meghnada are burnt. People gather in a big ground to see this event along with other fireworks.
Diwali
It is the most important festival of the Hindus. It comes 20 days after Dussehra. It is also called the festival of lamps. It is celebrated in the memory of returning of Lord Rama to his birth-land, Ayodhya, after a period of fourteen years exile. People exchange sweets and gifts on this day. At night, houses are decorated with candles and ‘Diyas’. Children burst crackers. Lord Ganesha and Goddess Laxmi are worshipped on this day.
Holi
It is the ‘festival of colour’. People throw coloured water and 'gulal' at each other. They exchange greetings and sweets. It comes in the month of March.
Eid-ul--fitr
It is the most important festival of the Muslims. It comes in the end of the holy month of ‘Ramazan’. On this day, people wear new clothes and go to mosque for pray. They greet ‘Eid mubarak’ to each other and exchange sweets and gifts.
Christmas
It is the important festival of the Christians. It is celebrated all over the world on 25th December. It is the birthday of Jesus Christ. People go to church and light candles. Children believe that santa claus gives gifts on this day.
Guruparva
It is the most important festival of the Sikhs. It is celebrated as the birth of two of their ‘Gurus’ –Guru Govind Singh and Guru Nanak. People go to ‘Gurudwara’ and participate in the community feast called ‘langer’. It is celebrated with great pomp and show.
Mahaveer Jayanti
It is celebrated by the Jains. It marks the birth of Lord Mahavira. People go to temple and participate in the community feast and procession.
Onam
Onam is the harvest festival of Kerala. It is celebrated for four days in the month of August. People clean and decorate their houses. A clay figure is installed in the courtyard. It is decorated with flowers. This decoration is called ‘atta-poo’. Boat-Races are main attraction of this festival. These boat-races are called snake-boats.
Durga Pooja
It is the most important festival of the Bengal. During the Durga Pooja, gifts and new clothes are purchased for every member of the family. Beautiful images of Goddess Durga are placed in decorated pandals.
Pongal
It is the harvest festival Tamil Nadu. It is celebrated for three days in the month of January. It marks the end of the harvesting of the rice crop.
In this way, we have learnt why India is called ‘The land of festival’. Festivals bring unity among people of different religions and states in our country.
